Why Horses?
Horses can influence humans in very powerful ways. Accomplishing a task with the horse, in spite of fears, creates confidence and provides wonderful metaphors for learning to deal with the challenging situations that are put before us. The curiosity and gentle nature of horses, and the fact that they are relational beings, all   them exceptional candidates for working with humans.

How can Equine Facilitated Learning actually improve literacy?
We are confident that our program can effect positive changes in the children who attend. Our emphasis on literacy is to cultivate in our young people an excitement about reading and writing  as a way for them to follow their dreams and reach their highest potential. Reading and writing will be  seamlessly woven into all activities.

Social Emotional Learning
A key component of our program will be to create an environment that cultivates good self esteem as well as social and emotional agility.
Some of our activities with the horses are specifically designed to help children become aware of and manage their emotions, build self-confidence and improve communication skills while instilling in them qualities of  care, respect and consideration of one another and all of life.
Enrichment Activities
The children will learn  all about equines,  horse behavior, safety around horses, horses in history, wild horses of this region, as well as the indigenous people of this area and their relationship with horses.
This camp is not geared toward teaching children how to ride although they will do some mounted activities.
We will also  explore  concepts related to sustainable living and permaculture, and the many aspects of nutrition and  growing our own healthy food.
